Frequently Asked Questions
What is SavaBag?
SavaBag is a solution to move the people of the world away from plastic shopping bags. It’s a bag made natural resources and can decompose naturally in normal conditions within months. It can do everything a standard plastic bag can do but it won’t pollute the environment any where near the extent of those plastic bags that you’ve come to know (and decided to hate). You know that conventional plastic bags are toxic, right?
What is SavaBag made from?
SavaBag is made from natural resources including vegetable starches, vegetable oils, and other naturally occurring properties. It does not contain toxic chemicals.
How are cassava bags made?
Our bags are a product of Indonesia and manufactured at our factory in much the same way as a conventional plastic bag (but ever-so-slightly differently). The density of SavaBag is more than normal cheap plastic so the manufacturing process is adjusted accordingly.
Are cassava bags home compostable?
If you have a home compost, like this one of these, then SavaBag will completely biodegrade in a matter of months in a similar manner to your food waste.
Does SavaBag decompose in nature?
If (for some reason) SavaBag ends up in the environment, whether rivers, ocean, or land, it will still biodegrade within a matter of months leaving no toxic elements.
Are cassava bags safe for the environment?
SavaBag is made naturally and contains zero toxic chemicals. Therefore, it will not pollute the environment with these nasty substances as it degrades.
It will disappear back to nature within months and therefore won’t be in existence as long as a traditional plastic bag. And in doing so it will become a fertiliser for the soil and encourage healthier plant growth.
The bags have passed oral toxicity tests and deemed harmless to marine life and small creatures.
And let’s not forget that, as SavaBag is made from naturally occurring resources, it does not rely on oil production which is unsustainable and whole other subject in itself.
Are the bags reusable?
SavaBag can be reused as long as it’s kept in good condition and in stored in a suitable environment to enable it to last longer. In other words, keep it away from water, humidity, and direct sunlight – a dry dark cupboard will be suffice.
What happens when SavaBag degrades?
Our bags will return back to nature in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and biomass. The CO2 is the result of it already having been stored in the vegetables used to create the bag, as is the case with all vegetables and plants.
